Congratulations on completing your first week of the 2017/2018 ERA school year. I know there have been a lot of changes since last year, but it will get easier and the ERA staff is here to support you. I want to thank all of you for your patience with the art room. I am still trying to get everything set up and organized, it will come together soon I promise.
Here are some reminders for each class AP Studio On Tuesday, 9/5, we will be doing our first critique. I will find out if the critique space is ready or not on Tuesday, otherwise we will have it in the art room. Remember that this critique is to receive feedback on your work, not a session to break anyone down. We are going to create a supportive environment, so please do not stress about the first critique, make sure you give yourself time to rest and relax. Ceramics Nice start on your pinch pots! We are starting with the basics to get you introduced/ reintroduced to clay, and starting with the simplest techniques will prevent frustration. On Tuesday, please bring a sketchbook and a pencil. You will be taking more notes, and will begin planning your designs for your pots. We will go over texture, as well as score and slip procedures for adding handles and feet to your pots. Yearbook You should all have access to the Jostens website. Continue to look through the color palettes, styles and fonts to begin making possible combinations for this year's yearbook. We will be having our first class meeting on Tuesday, be prepared to share your ideas with the class. Remember if you are looking at the designs in 'Page Designer', do not save anything. If you forgot the login for the website here it is Job# 41708 Username: first name + last initial Password: book18 7th Grade This is a big transition year for you. Not only will you have art everyday, you also have to go all the way upstairs to get to the art room. It will get easier and you will become more comfortable with the building. Next week we are finishing the stylized names for your cubbies and will be starting our unit on clay. You do not need your kits next week! Order them by Sept. 12th 5pm, and they will be delivered to the school. 3D Great start on the sketches for your masks! Finish those for Tuesday! We will begin constructing the masks next week, you will be given a demonstration on using the plaster sheets on Tuesday. I will provide as many materials for your masks as I can, if you want to bring in something from home to put on your masks please do. Please bring a sketchbook on Tuesday, you will start taking notes and doing all of your sketches in it. You can order your 3D kit by Sept 12th 5pm, if you want it to be delivered to the school. If you miss that deadline you can still order it but will need to pick it up at Wet Paint in St. Paul. Thank you for a wonderful first week of school. I enjoyed seeing many of you again after a year away from Eagle Ridge, and I enjoyed meeting some of you for the first time. It was a great start to the year!
